This web site is designed to keep everyone informed about the events held during the Wild West Winter Carnival. The Wild West Winter Carnival is hosting the following events for 2010A coloring contest for students in Kindergarten through 5th grades, from January 11thh to January 29th. Each year a new themed picture is distributed through the schools, and prizes are awarded within age groups for best coloring. Our Night Parade is held on the South Side of Main Street January 15th at 6:00 p.m. Each year, a new themed float is created to hold the current King & Queen of the Winter Carnival. We throw candy to children on the sidewalk, shoot blanks in the air, and whoop and holler. The Wild West Winter Carnival Kick-off Gala will be held at The Elks Club on January 15th starting at 7:30. This is our inaugural event for the 2010 Carnival. We invite our sponsors and public to enjoy delectable hors d’ouvres served by The Bull and music by The X-Dox. A new event for 2010 is the Car & Bike Show. It will be held at the Armory on Jan 16th from 10 am to 4 pm. The first fifty entries will receive a free 2010 Winter Carnival Car Show T-Shirt. The event is free and open to the public. Entry form(PDF) Wind River Casino Night is a newer event for the WWWC on January 16th. Five $100 drawings will be held for anyone who has a Wild West Winter Carnival Button (available at the Wind River Casino Gift Shop). Start time 8:00 pm A Treasure Hunt is held in Fremont County starting Jan 26th. Members of the community can follow the clues in the Riverton Ranger to locate the Medallion, a paper weight sized medal that says Winter Carnival. If you find the Medallion, and you have a Wild West Winter Carnival button, you can win $500. There is also a Remote Control Fly In held at the Riverton Middle School on January 20 from 7 – 9:00 p.m. Local R/C pilots bring indoor airplanes and helicopters, and show off their sport. A trophy is awarded for most spectacular crash. The Fishing Derby is held at Boysen Reservoir from January 29 through 31st. Different species of local fish create multiple classes for heaviest catch. Prizes are awarded at 4:00 p.m. at the B&K Shoreline on Jan 31st. The Poker Run will be held on Boysen Resevoir on Jan 30th from 10 am to 200 pm. There will be different places around the lake to get your cards so warm up your 4 wheeler or snowmobile. Need valid 2010 ORV or Snowmobile sticker to participate. Prizes to be awarded. RC Car Races will be held at the Wind River Casino on Jan 30 from 10 am to 3 pm and on Jan 31st from 10am to 2 pm . Racers from 3 states will compete for prizes and trophies with 1/28th scale race cars. Entry form(PDF) Flyer(PDF) Ice Sculpting takes place on Main Street February 6th starting at 9 a.m. Artists from around the region compete for trophies in the Beginner, Intermediate and Professional class. The sculptures adorn Main Street until they melt. Tethered Balloon Rides are available at Riverton City Park on Feb 6th starting at 10 a.m. There is no fee, the local Hot Air Balloon group provides the fun. Hole in One Golf is held at Riverton City Park on Feb 6th at 11 a.m. For a fee, you can try to get a hole-in-one on a 100 yard hole. Closest to the pin wins a cash prize On Feb 6th and 7th The Wyoming Star Quilters will hold the WWWC Quiltfest at Aspen Park School. A Kids Coin Grab is held at Riverton City Park on Feb 6th at 1 p.m. The current King & Queen hide coins in shredded paper, and allow kids to keep the coins they find. The children are separated into age groups and given a set time to look to promote a fair contest. The ever popular Crab Crack is held at St Margaret’s on Feb 6th, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. All You Can Eat crab is cooked by the Riverton Rotary club, and served en masse to the attendants. Tickets are $25 each prior to the event, and $28 at the door. The Riverton Artist’s Guild presents the annual Quick Draw at the Riverton Armory on Feb 6th from 7 to 9:00 p.m. Artists complete a project within an hour while the public mills around behind them, and the results are auctioned off later that evening. Coronation is held at the St Margaret’s Feb 6th at 8 p.m. while the Quick Draw is going on. The previous King & Queen pass on the Belt Buckle, Crown & Sash to the new King & Queen. A Junior King & Queen will be crowned, with associated scholarship prizes awarded. |
